Release Notes

**Breaking change:** This release is a major version bump due to a system requirement change, requiring a git installation.  This requirement is included in the OCI containers, but may require the installation of a supported package, or packaging changes from redistributors of Forgejo Runner.  Access to a `git` binary is now required to access reusable actions and workflows, such as `use: action/checkout@v5` -- before this release, access was performed using an internal library that avoided an external dependency. Forgejo (/for'd͡ʒe.jo/ inspired by forĝejo – the Esperanto word for forge) has you covered with its intuitive interface, light and easy hosting and a lot of built-in functionality.

Forgejo was created in 2022 because we think that the project should be owned by an independent community. If you second that, then Forgejo is for you! Our promise: Independent Free/Libre Software forever!

Forgejo is distributed under the terms of the GPL version 3.0 or any later version.

The agreement for this license was documented in June 2023 and implemented during the development of Forgejo v9.0. All Forgejo versions before v9.0 are distributed under the MIT license.
